Welcome to the latest This is the Place – Ko Tenei Te Wahi newsletter! We made it! Thank you to all those who came and helped us celebrate the launch of the This is the Place - Ko Tenei Te Wahi website. It was a wonderful event, with lots of contributors and supporters turning out to witness the ‘birth’ of the project. Local iwi supported us with a powhiri and blessed the project, which was officially made ‘live’ by Lucy Graham, daughter of Blue Orb Trustee Pete Graham, and Tom Potter, an elderly gentleman who kindly contributed oral memoirs to the project. Great to be live! The best thing about being live is that we can now say “Go and check it out!” Having a project in development is always a challenge, and it is wonderful to now be sharing it with the world. We’ve had lots of hits on the site already, and people have even started adding their stories, which is great. Got your teatowels yet? The teatowels are an idea born from the huge collection of wonderful images contributed to the project from a bunch of talented local photographers. Their images all tell a story, and add a layer of brilliance to the website… and make great teatowels! They have been described as “very cheap pieces of fine art”, and will be on sale at local art fairs over the next month or two before going on sale at stores like Tuatara in Bank Street, Whangarei. Other outlets are being investigated around Northland. We have also produced some beautiful notebooks which feature images and stories from the website, and our own collection of greeting cards and postcards. Where to from here? There’s still a few more weeks of development on the site just to get it as great as it can be, and we’ll also be adding a few more features (like letting you buy the teatowels online). There is so much potential for the project, so we’re doing some serious brainstorming to plan which path we take next. Share it with the world Now we need your help to share This is the Place - Ko Tenei Te Wahi with the world – tell your friends and family both in New Zealand and abroad, so we can watch the site grow together.
